DIY a Maternity photo shoot at Home like a Pro

Wishing that your wedding album had better pictures? Your baby’s now giving you another chance. With the right planning, clothes and a lot of love we show how you can make sure to get it right this time.
Here are the things that you can do to not only feel good, but also capture the memories for a lifetime.
- “I am in shape. Round is a shape”
Do the shoot too early and you will not do justice to your growing belly. If you wait too long, you will be too tired and not have enough energy to go through it at all.
Between week 28-34 of your pregnancy is the best time to plan your maternity shoot. Your bump will be nice and beautiful and you capture the joy of a new baby beautifully!
- It’s all about the Dress … or Dresses!
Choose flattering outfits that accentuate your belly and help you build a story on film. You can choose different outfits for different sensibilities, giving you more options while sharing them with family & friends. Get dresses in timeless styles and colours as well as try to experiment with something new to give you a variety of looks.
If you are going to bare your tummy, avoid wearing anything tight and remove elastic bands at least 2 – 3 hours before the shoot. We don’t want to show those skid marks to the whole world.
- Make it Personal
It is your story - so you should make it meaningful to you by using props. Include your favorite childhood toy, outfit or blanket. Bring your pets or older children to add a fun twist to your pictures. You can also use ultrasounds, fresh flowers, letter boards and blocks to help you with the narrative.
- Comfort is Cool
Comfort and Ease of Movement are going to be your best friends during the shoot. Keep them in mind while picking up your outfit and they will make sure you glow. Empire Waists, Drawstrings, Flowing Tops and Wrap Dresses are perfect for enhancing your shape.

Remember those amazing pictures of Insta Influencers during lockdown? They were shot at home - so you too can capture your picture perfect pregnancy without a professional. In fact, isn’t your home the most intimate place to showcase your special moment? And best of all, you are safe and there is no one to disturb you - so you can take all the time you like!
Think of the mood or the themes that you want to set up and buy the necessary accessories for it online. A tripod, ring light and timer combination are great accessories for those Insta worthy frames.
Practice your pose and see which place gets the best light in your house. The light source should be in front of you or at the side, not behind you.
